Even if you don’t have your own horse, you can ride at Folly Farm through our Riding School and IEA programs. Our Riding School operates year-round and offers structured instruction for riders of all ages and abilities in a safe, supportive environment.
We are fortunate to have a large outdoor sand ring as well as two indoor arenas, allowing lessons to continue comfortably regardless of weather conditions.
Folly Farm Show Stables is proud to offer a carefully selected group of lesson horses suited for riders of varying ages and experience levels. Each horse in our program is well-trained, thoughtfully matched to riders, and cared for with the highest standards of daily management, ensuring a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for every student.

All new riders are welcome to begin with a 3-lesson introductory package to determine whether our program is the right fit.
Riders who demonstrate the ability to ride independently and safely may be invited to join hour-long group lessons. There is no set timeline for moving into a group lesson; readiness is determined by our instructors based on skill, confidence, and safety.
Riding School private and group lessons are offered Tuesday through Sunday. Lesson groups are organized based on each rider’s age and experience level to ensure appropriate instruction and steady progression.
Folly Farm operates on a semester system, with new semesters beginning every 13 weeks on a set schedule.
Each semester package includes:
Riders who purchase an introductory package may join a semester on a pro-rated basis.
To be eligible for a make-up lesson:
Riders who do not require make-up lessons will be billed accordingly to bridge the gap between semesters.

The Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) was founded on the principle that students should not be required to own a horse in order to compete. The program provides riders with the opportunity to gain valuable show experience in a team-focused, supportive environment.
Folly Farm Show Stables is proud to offer an active IEA program for both High School and Middle School riders. Coached by Brittney Watras, our teams have earned numerous Regional, Zone, and National awards over the years. Riders are expected to participate in weekly lessons and compete in IEA horse shows each session as part of the program.
For more information about joining our IEA team, please contact Coach Brittney directly.

At Folly Farm, we only offer riding lessons. Riders utilizing our lesson horses must be under the direction of an instructor at all times. If you are looking for trail riding, we recommend Lee's Riding Stable in Litchfield, CT.
We require that all students mounted on a horse wear long pants, boots that cover the ankle and have a small heel, and an ASTM/SEI certified helmet. We do have helmets to borrow, but we highly recommend students obtain their own helmets. Due to certification requirements, bicycle and sports helmets may not be worn in lieu of an actual riding helmet.
We operate a very busy program. All lessons are pre-booked appointments. At this time we are maintaining a lengthy waiting list for all lessons. Riders with experience who are capable of riding independently may be able to bypass the waiting list by joining a group lesson. Additionally, riders who are available outside of peak hours may be able to get in sooner. (Peak hours are after school/work and on weekends.)
We highly recommend The Equestrian Centre in Avon, CT or Dover Saddlery in Manchester, CT. Our instructors are very happy to guide you in making the most suitable purchase for your needs.
Folly Farm Events and Simsbury Polo Club are separate from Folly Farm Show Stables. Please visit their respective websites for contact information.
We accept cash, check, credit cards, and ACH transfers.
ACH Transfers and Credit Cards are processed directly via our QuickBooks Online invoices.
Cash/Checks should be placed in the black lock box in the arena barn.
